Gym Profile – Tigers Fight Club

Esteemed Pakistani Martial Artist and friend of mine Aurangzaib Khan has been trying to put a focus on MMA in the past couple years but has been met with a lot of resistance. Nonetheless he still tries to promote the sport while training and competing himself and has on many occasions gone overseas to represent Pakistan in full contact tournaments.

His Gym is located in Rawalpindi and focuses on kickboxing and Muay Thai. I will personally make a visit there this winter and will write a more lengthy post about my experience.

His website is http://www.emaa.vze.com where he has some news (not updated) and some very basic training tips. Good effort from him.

A biography of Mr. Khan can be best said in his words which I have taken from his website.

“Sifu Mir Aurangzeb khan’s career of professional in the martial arts with over one decade experience in a variety of disciplines.

He holds a Black belt 1st Dan in the Shotokan karate and in the Wushu Kung Fu holds Black sash 1st Degree and also Black belt 1st Dan in the Kick Boxing and wkn Pakistan team player.he hold the title of light welter weight champion in the All Pakistan inter divisional Boxing championships, and the Chief Ins. and team Captain of the “The Way of Eagles” and fighting society of Rawalpindi and Eagles Boxers Academy.

He is widely respected and Twin city acclaimed in the martial arts society and community and is one of the most highly decorated martial arts experts in the Rawalpindi,Pakistan”

Thanks Aurangzaib for your efforts in Pakistan’s Martial Arts scene.

FAQ

I have been getting a lot of emails from people interested in whats going on with Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan so I am gonna write a post that everyone can go to to get some of the frequently asked questions answered.

The most frequent question I get is about the training center in Lahore.

First, there is no training center in Lahore at the moment. There are PLANS which should come through to start setting something up and have things up and running by SPRING 2010.

A note about the plans for the training center. This training center will not be focused on making money by holding classes for fitness. The focus will be on training full time FIGHTERS. That doesn’t mean people can’t come in a couple times a week and train. Of course they can but the focus is going to be on people who can stay at the center full time and train. Pakistan’s MMA scene needs this in order to break into the international circuit as fast as possible. This training center is not gonna be glitz and glamor. Chances are its going to be very basic and spartan.

For people who want to train in the meantime, I suggest finding a place that teaches boxing (LUMS has a class as does Model Town Sports Center), Judo (as long as they practice Randori or free sparring) and Kushti at a nearby Akhara (many can be found in the old city or full contact Karate.

Other Martial Arts such as Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi etc, although very good martial arts, may not be practical for MMA or real life situations. It’s not that they are bad, but the manner in which they train does not promote practical fighting reflexes. Anyone is free to discuss these topics in the discussion room on the facebook page.

Second, I am currently in Thailand training Muay Thai. I will go back to the US in the next few weeks to work on some stuff for MMA Pakistan and will return to Pakistan in December. When I arrive I will be working on MMA full time and will be available at times for private training.

I am sure more questions will come up. I don’t mind answering them. Stay updated and keep training.

Look forward to coming back to Pakistan and making some serious strides in about 3 months time.

Other Pakistani Martial Arts videos

After viewing a number of other videos on Youtube by other Martial Artists in Pakistan I got to thinking about where I want to take this site and the whole conception of Mixed Martial Arts Pakistan. The whole idea of Mixed Martial Arts is that all styles have something to offer for all ranges of combat as is said in the recent video we have put out. For this reason I am going to start devoting more attention to the different styles of Martial Arts in Pakistan that are practiced in Pakistan with the idea that by sharing our information and knowledge and by giving full respect to each individual art we can build a stronger more cohesive MMA community that supports each other within Pakistan. For this reason in the near future as I may start branching out on post topics and try to steer the site into being a site for all things Martial Arts in Pakistan.

That being said here is a video from Jalil Martial Art Academy. Not too much action mostly ceremonial stuff as is the case with most of the videos I have seen making most of these academies suspect as to where their priorities lie. That is one of the problems that I have seen in the Pakistani Martial Arts community, the leadership is far too preoccupied with certifications and testings instead of focusing on international level quality.

Have a look and please comment.

MMA Pakistan is now facebook and Youtube!

We also just set up a YouTube account and have put up our first video which you can view below. It’s a very basic Urdu instructional on MMA fundamentals, very basic for those familiar with MMA but very useful for those unacquainted with the sport. This is an introductory video and the videos that will come in subsequent months will be much better in quality and content.

Thanks everyone!
